Travel During Covid-19
Protocols, Procedures, Precautions
It’s hard to believe I departed a week ago and have already been back six days. There is so much to share about such a short holiday but there are currently so many new layers and considerations to international travel. This post will take you step by step, location by location and share all the different protocols, procedures and precautions during Covid-19 travel designed to keep everyone safe and healthy.
We departed from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport which is easily accessible by car. All employees, passengers and visitors at the airport must wear masks as they make their way in, through TSA, to the gate area and onto your aircraft. Physical distancing is also maintained throughout the airport-restaurants, shops and especially gate areas. Hand sanitizer dispensers can be found everywhere-near shops, rest rooms, restaurants and at every gate. Here is the link to ATL’s Covid-19 information page:
For this vacation we had the pleasure of flying on Delta Air Lines. They have developed and instituted the Delta CareStandard to take care of passengers, flight crew and all employees during Covid-19. Their protocols and procedures are comprehensive and effective from all employees wearing masks to blocking middle seats through March 30, 2021 to offering prepacked snack bags complete with Purell. I encourage you to watch the video to get all their current policy information.
The airport in Liberia, Costa Rica has plenty of places to wash your hands and get hand sanitizer, physical distancing reminders are posted throughout the airport both when you enter and go through customs as well as in the ticketing, screening and gate areas. Seats are marked to maintain six foot distancing in the gate areas and restaurants . Masks are required for all airport employees, travelers and tour operators working at the airport. While waiting for our flight I observed an airport employee diligently cleaning high touch surfaces such as doors, stair rails and escalator hand rails.

Our transfer from the airport was through the El Mangroove hotel and their policy is only to pick up or drop off a guest since they thoroughly clean the vehicle between customers. The driver had hand sanitizer for us to use before getting into the vehicle and then got us on the road to the hotel.
El Mangroove is one of the Autograph Collection owned by Marriott Hotels. It is a one of a kind boutique hotel that wholly reflects the location, destination and environment of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. As with every supplier in the tourism industry they go to great measures to ensure the health and safety of their guests and employees while still creating a vacation atmosphere. Staff and employees always wore masks and were frequently seen washing their hands and using hand sanitizer. The restaurants were kept at 50% capacity and you called ahead for a reservation so there was no need to wait for a table around others standing around. Also in the restaurants prior to being seated the hostess would UV wand your table and chairs giving you visible assurance they had been thoroughly cleaned. With all these precautions I felt completely comfortable and safe staying at this beautiful hotel.

Cutting down capacity at the bar
Resort Necessities! Antimicrobial water dispenser to stay hydrated and touchless hand sanitizer along with sunscreen and aloe dispensers.
Considering all the contact that was made during our vacation I was thoroughly impressed at the lengths companies and governments are going to in an effort to ensure the health and safety of travelers and employees as well as promote tourism during such a difficult time. I took my Covid-19 test today and was gratified by getting a negative result.
Next post will be an overview of El Mangroove Hotel!!

Thank you for the great overview of your travels. Well done!!
